Joan Peterson

Joan Peterson (nee Pike), age 92,

longtime resident of Barrington, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 14, 2025.

Joan, affectionately known to many as “Deedee,” was born in Boston, MA, on April 24, 1933. She grew up in Monticello, IL, where she cherished her time on the family farm and developed a lifelong appreciation for the farmers who worked the land. Deedee had a great sense of humor, which she passed down through the generations. A woman of deep faith, a lover of music and musical theatre, Deedee also enjoyed fashion, gardening, and the simplicity of modern architecture. Her happiest times were those spent with family, or…watching Illinois beat Purdue in College Basketball.

Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, John D. Peterson; loving children: Joan Pagliai, Mary Peterson, John Peterson, and Ann Foley; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Katherine, , James, Michael, and Allison; great grandchildren: Florence, Virginia, Mabel, Aurora, Scarlett, James, Lawrence, Gabriel, Davis, Shea, and Raymond. Brother Ora William (Bill) Pike. Preceded in death by her parents, Max and Marion Pike, and her brother Noel Douglas (Tucker) Pike.

A special message from brother Bill:

“…Joan was a sister and a mother to me. As we got older, she even took me on her dates. Without Joan, I have no idea where I would have ended up. I will always have her in my heart.”

A Funeral Mass for Joan will be held at 10am on Thursday May 22, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 27551 Volo Village Rd, Volo, IL.
